Over the last 2 seasons we have used the HotLap application for our official lap timing. This provided a great product with the ability for us to see everyone’s laps in real time. Although an awesome app, it hasn’t always been reliable for everyone, and issues have only become more widespread over the course of this season due to our location so we are pivoting and adapting to the situation.
You will run your chosen lap timer. Upon completion of your competition run, you will pull up to a worker by the shelter on the skid pad and they will check your time and have it added to the results. These results will be tracked in a spread sheet to ensure we can accurately tabulate results.

We will record times to 2 decimal places so the format is MM:SS.ss. if your system records to 3 decimal places, your result will be rounded to 2 decimal places, meaning a 1:31.244 will become 1:31.24, and a 1:31.245 will become 1:31.25.
There are two reasons for this. First, some timing solutions measure to 2 decimal places and others to 3, this keeps it fair. Further, GPS works by marking your position repeatedly. Most phones take a position once each second (1Hz), and most devices do so either 5 or 10 times per second (5Hz or 10Hz respectively).
Starting 2024 Season, we will be accepting a plethora of lap timing options as official. The purpose is to create a list of recommended lap timing solutions. Anything on this list will be accepted at our events. If you have another timing solution that you would like to use, please talk to us and we will determine whether it can be used f

*If using a phone app, you must use an external GPS device with a faster refresh rate to provide position to your phone. This will lead to more reliable and more accurate times while also providing you more flexibility in where you mount your phone. We have had the best luck with Dual, QStars, and RaceBox brand GPS devices.
*Standalone Systems: Garmin Catalyst, AiM Solo Devices, RaceBox, RaceBox Mini S, and Transponders if you can show your live data.
*Phone Apps: Track Addict (a favorite of a few regulars), RaceChrono/RaceChronoPro (another favorite), Harry’s Lap Timer, CircuitStorm, SoloStorm, and HotLap (still valid if it is reliable for you, generally works best on iPhone with an external GPS, but seems to have issues on android).
Make sure the actual GPS device (phone or otherwise) has as clear a view of the sky as possible to ensure accurate GPS readings.
Test your device with your app to make sure you know how to connect them prior to coming to an event and use the practice sessions to further test and troubleshoot your setup prior to competition.
